At Indiana University we have created a body of strong-willed and hard-working students that are passionate about mental health. This diverse group of students is composed of students of all majors and backgrounds that have united for the common goal of diminishing stigma on campus. These students have been creative and innovative in ways to engage their own student body, seeking positive change and the normalization of mental health issues in the campus community.
By being involved in U Bring Change 2 Mind, students are able to plan and participate in many activities.
The goal to reduce mental illness stigma is crucial to the overall health and growth of our nation. The prevalence of mental illness and the ignorance surrounding the diseases is a major problem and UBC2M's goal of starting the conversation is not only admirable but of the upmost importance.
I stayed in U Bring Change 2 Mind because of the like-minded people who also wanted to make a difference here at Indiana University. U Bring Change 2 Mind not only continues to challenge me but never fails to make me smile with all of the positive initiatives from movie nights to handing out candy canes and compliments
It is a movement that aids in changing the way mental health issues are perceived. So many times, an individual will go without seeking help for these issues out of fear of judgement, leading to serious consequences. This organization has allowed me to help empower others to reach out for the help they need, change the way mental illness is viewed, and provide a safe environment for conversation to take place. The fact that stigma is still a major barrier to someone acknowledging their struggle with mental health should bother any individual who cares for the well-being of others. I truly believe it is all our responsibilities to stand up and stop stigma from being a road block to recovery.
